Open Door received £1000 gifted by former Mayor of Warminster Cllr Phil Keeble

The former Mayor of Warminster, Cllr Phil Keeble, has presented a Cheque for £1000 to the Charity Trustees of Open Door who manage the Chat Cafes at Warminster Athenaeum. Each year, the Mayor chooses to endorse Charities and for the past year, he opted to divide all monies raised during his tenure between Open Door and Myeloma UK.

The Chat Cafe is open every Thursday morning to support those who are feeling lonely, isolated or wanting friendship. On Friday mornings, the Chat Cafe assists anyone who is affected by Cancer or seek support with Bereavement. A new Prostate Cancer Support Group has also opened at the Athenaeum on the 2nd and 4th Monday evening of each month.

Myeloma UK focus on the incurable blood cancer Myeloma to drive better outcomes through research, treatment access and provide Patient and carer information and support programmes.                              

Cllr Keeble said “The value and importance of being able to chat with people who understand, in a safe and welcoming space, cannot be underestimated and is vital for positive wellbeing and mental health. I have visited the Chat Cafes on a numerous of occasions, the benefits provided are significant and really heartwarming”. 

Simon James from Open Door added “We are so grateful to receive this cheque from Cllr Phil Keeble, which will be used to promote and enhance our Chat Cafes. His hard work raising money for good causes over the last year is very much appreciated by all who use them”.
