Happiness is Helping Others
As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteers’ wellbeing too.
Not only do you get the feel good factor of helping someone out, but volunteering can help you gain valuable new skills and experiences, and boost your confidence.
Did you know…
- Around 16.3m people in the UK volunteer through a group, club or organisation
- Most people have volunteered at some point in their lives, dipping in and out of involvement over time.
- Volunteering patterns changed substantially during the pandemic.
- Almost one in five (17%) people reported volunteering at least once a month, which is about 9.2m people.

Volunteer recruitment specifications
Open Door, Warminster is a registered charity (reg no. 1207590). It operates drop in support groups, known as Chat Cafes, for anyone affected by bereavement, cancer, loneliness and social isolation in Warminster, Wiltshire
The two hour cafes provide an informal, friendly atmosphere where guests can connect with people with shared experiences over a free drink and some nibbles.
We have two volunteer groups:
Volunteer chatters – these are the people who welcome guests, prepare the refreshments, chat with them and listen to their stories. As a volunteer chatter, the key role is to listen and empathise without judgement. You need to like, and be interested in, all kinds of people.
Volunteer trustees – these are the people responsible for the governance of the charity. We have formal Chair, Treasurer and Secretary roles like any charity and regular trustees. We ask trustees to act as a centre of focus for different aspects of our work and are currently recruiting for a volunteer oversight trustee. Details of the person specification are shown below. If you are interested in this role – or any of the others – please email admin@opendoorwarminster.org providing a brief summary of which role you like the look of, and we will be in touch
