About Open Door Warminster
Open Door Warminster is a charitable incorporated organisation registered with the Charity Commission, registration number 1207590.
We are a volunteer group supporting the residents of Warminster and the surrounding villages. We set up in 2020, determined to create opportunities for people who were feeling isolated or excluded from society to come together in a safe and encouraging environment and talk about how they feel and how they would like to feel.
The Thursday Friendship Chat Café was our first endeavour. Its doors are open every Thursday morning for anyone who is feeling lonely or isolated. It’s a lively welcoming environment where everyone relaxes and enjoys a good chat over a cuppa and some cake!
On the first and third Friday of the month is the Cancer Support café – open to anyone personally affected by cancer or supporting a loved one through it. Our volunteers all have lived experience of cancer and are happy to help you talk through yours. We have occasional guests such as Macmillan Cancer and Look Good Feel Better who provide practical advice on important topics such as money, makeup and hair care.
Since the beginning of July 2024, our latest support café is open on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 19:00-20:30 at The Athenaeum Warminster. The Prostate Support café aims to help men by raising awareness of the disease, and for men already affected by cancer, the Chat Café will also help them to talk about their prostate cancer journey in a safe space, with other men going through similar experiences.
On the second and fourth Friday of each month we have the Grief Support café. Grief is something everyone will experience – whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a job, a relationship or a dream. Our volunteer chatters will help you work through the feelings that grief brings to the surface and while they can’t take away the pain, they will try to help you live through it.
All the Chat Cafés are held at The Athenæum Centre, 18 – 20 High Street, Warminster, BA12 9AE.
It’s a drop in service and while donations are always welcome there is no charge for refreshments or company! The Chat Café’s volunteer team are trained and experienced in safe-guarding and active listening.

Community Support
We recognise that loneliness – social and emotional – has been exacerbated by the pandemic, but it is an existing problem for society with an impact that goes far beyond individual wellbeing.
Our vision is a community where everyone feels socially included and supported.
Our mission is to create opportunities for people who feel isolated to come together in a safe and encouraging environment and, with the help of compassionate volunteers, identify ways in which their wellbeing can be enriched.
